Organic Status

Red Barn Farm is thrilled to announce that as of growing season 2017, a segment of our farming operations have been Certified USDA Organic by Oregon Tilth. Known for their rigor and attention to detail we want to thank Oregon Tilth for their review of our farm and for the opportunity to grow organic blueberries.

The majority of our crop will continue to be Certified Transitional Organic, on track to be Certified Organic in growing season 2019. We're excited about this new direction and would be happy to fill you in with more details. Shoot us an email or, better yet, come visit us at a Farmer's Market to chat!

Red Barn Farm is located in the heart of Michigan’s legendary fruit belt. Situated a few miles from the lake in southwest Michigan, the temperate climate and the native sandy soil make this the ideal location to grow blueberries. The farm sits on a quiet, country road just east of South Haven in Allegan County.

Our Mission

At Red Barn Farm we seek to do more than just grow delicious, organic blueberries. We have three priorities, which are foundational to our farms operations:

  1. People - our top priority is to ensure that those working on our farm, at our markets, and anywhere in between are treated fairly. With respect to those farming our land, we are seeking to improve the lives of farm workers in southwest Michigan by providing good wages and educational grants for each worker
  2. Restorative and sustainable farming practices - we want the land to flourish and to remain productive for generations to come. This is why we chose to adopt organic practices, but it also influences our conservative use of water and what we plug back into the soil (microbes and probiotics)
  3. Ecosystem - the Great Lakes region is unlike any other in the world. With the most miles of shoreline in the contiguous United States, this "fresh coast" is an amazing place to visit or call home and we want to keep it that way. We will continue to comply with the regulations and requests of agencies seeking to improve and prolong this great ecosystem

Bottom line, we want to be good stewards of the wonderful creation entrusted to us. It may not always be easy, but we have no doubt that it is always worthwhile. And once you taste the difference, we think you'll feel the same.

Red Barn Farm blueberries are distinctive as they are grown organically and sustainably, with no pesticides or harsh chemicals in accordance with USDA practices. The nutrients in the soil are protected through our use of organic fertilizer. The natural state of the soil in southwest Michigan lends itself to delicious and robust blueberries. We refer to our fruit as "Fresh Coast Blueberries" as the expansive fresh water lake shore creates an environment like no other for blueberry growth.

And they are an antioxidant superfood!

In just one serving, you can get 14 mg of Vitamin C – almost 25 percent of your daily requirement.

Research has shown that most of us do not get enough fiber in our diets. A handful of blueberries can help you meet your daily requirement.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), blueberries are near the top when it comes to antioxidant activity per serving.

Where to find us

This summer, we will have tents at two Farmer's Markets throughout chicagoland. Each Saturday starting June 30th and running through September 1st, we will be at the Wheaton market as well as the Green City Market located in the West Loop of downtown Chicago. Come visit us at one of these two fantastic locations to get your weekly dose of blueberries.

About us

As a family owned and operated farm, we understand the importance of fresh produce on your family’s table. Our farming heritage starts back in the 1920’s when our great-grandfather entered into the cherry business. Working out of Beulah, Michigan, he produced cherries for over four decades. Inspired by the work of our great-grandfather, our family took to carry on the farming tradition. Our farming operations are headquartered in a lovingly restored 100 year old red post and beam barn in southwest Michigan, between South Haven and Saugatuck.

With the principles of honest farming practices, farm to table freshness, and our family's commitment to excellence, we only deliver the finest of blueberries. So you know when you open a box of Red Barn Farm blueberries that you are getting the best that nature has to offer.

We want to provide you and your family with that same fresh fruit experience that we've come to love, so come pick up a box of Red Barn Farm blueberries, from our family's farm to your family’s table.
